**If you enrolled as an individual and you've paid, Apple says you'll get your membership confirmation within 24 hours.** Once that window has passed, don't keep waiting: the [enrollment help page](https://developer.apple.com/help/account/membership/program-enrollment/) tells you to contact support and include your Enrollment ID. For an organization, the wait happens before payment, while Apple verifies the entity, and Apple gives no timeline for it.

I publish my iOS apps, Solys, TradaZen and Nolera, with an individual account. Devoria is a sole proprietorship, so I enrolled as an individual. This guide is based on Apple's help pages, reread on November 6, 2026, and it answers the question everyone asks after paying $99 (billed in euros in France): what is Apple waiting for, and from whom?

## Where your enrollment stands: the four stages

Apple doesn't publish a detailed dashboard. To check the status of your request, the help page gives just one method: sign in to the developer website with the Apple Account you used to enroll. What you see there depends on your stage.

| Stage | What Apple is waiting for | Timeline Apple gives | What you can do |
| ------------------------- | ---------------------------- | ----------------------------------- | ---------------------------------- |
| Request sent, not paid | Your verification or Apple's | None | Check your name, address, identity |
| Organization under review | D-U-N-S, signing authority | None, "next steps" email | Answer requests quickly |
| Payment sent | Order processing | Acknowledgment email, then 24 hours | Wait, then contact support |
| Membership confirmed | Nothing | Immediate | Open App Store Connect |

**For an individual, everything hinges on payment.** You accept the agreement, you pay, and Apple first sends you an order acknowledgment, then a confirmation email once the payment is processed. That second email is what activates your membership.

**For an organization, payment comes last.** According to the same page, Apple first verifies the entity's information, then sends an email with the next steps. In the Apple Developer app, it's after that email that Apple has you tap Continue Your Enrollment. The [D-U-N-S number](https://devoria.fr/en/blog/apple-d-u-n-s-number-free) and signing authority are the two pieces that take time.

If you're still torn between the two, the guide [individual or organization account](https://devoria.fr/en/blog/apple-developer-account-individual-vs-organization) compares what each one requires.

## The most common causes of delay

Apple documents few error messages, but it's specific about what holds up an enrollment. Here are the causes it lists.

**A name that isn't your legal name.** This is the one Apple repeats on two pages. The [identity verification page](https://developer.apple.com/help/account/membership/identity-verification/) is explicit: don't enter an alias, a nickname or a company name as your first or last name, because a legal name error delays enrollment. A French auto-entrepreneur who enters their trade name falls into this trap.

**A card that isn't yours.** For an individual paying by card on the web, Apple asks for your own card. Otherwise, the enrollment page warns, your enrollment is delayed and Apple asks you for a copy of an official photo ID.

**A card that can't be charged in dollars, outside the Apple Store.** In countries where the program isn't sold on the Apple online store, Apple shows a card form and asks for a card that can be charged in USD. In France, payment goes through the Apple online store, in euros.

**A P.O. box as your address.** Apple doesn't accept it. Use an address where you actually live.

**No two-factor authentication on your Apple Account.** It's required before you even start. Without it, you can't begin enrollment.

**An organization that isn't one.** A sole proprietor or one-person business enrolls as an individual. A French micro-entreprise that applies for an organization membership gets stuck, even with a SIRET number: according to [Apple's D-U-N-S page](https://developer.apple.com/help/account/membership/D-U-N-S/), Apple finds it in the D&B database with a sole proprietorship status, which it doesn't accept for an organization, and sends it back to individual enrollment.

**Switching devices midway.** If you use the Apple Developer app, the [page on enrolling in the app](https://developer.apple.com/help/account/membership/enrolling-in-the-app/) asks you to keep the same device for the entire process, signed in to iCloud, with the latest version of the app.

> Before you write to Apple, go over your request with this list. Most multi-day waits come from one of these items, not from a delay on Apple's side.

## Identity verification, piece by piece

In the Apple Developer app, enrollment starts with your legal name, your phone number, then a photo of an ID. The page on enrolling in the app accepts a passport in most regions and, depending on the region, other official photo IDs such as a driver's license. Apple checks the document is authentic, extracts your name and address, and says it doesn't keep the image.

Two consequences to know:

- **A verified identity is tied to a single Apple Account.** It can't be verified again with another account. Pick the Apple Account you want to publish with for years, not a throwaway address.
- **You can ask for another method.** If your country's law doesn't require an ID, the page on enrolling in the app points you to support to verify another way.

Apple also asks for your legal name, phone number and address, and may, depending on the case, request an official identification number or an image of an ID. An organization may additionally be asked for notarized business documents, and for a reference who confirms your authority to bind the company if you're neither its founder nor its owner.

## Paid, but nothing's happening

This is the case that worries people most, and it's the one where Apple gives a real timeline. The [purchase and activation page](https://developer.apple.com/support/purchase-activation/) describes the sequence: an order acknowledgment email as soon as the purchase is submitted, then a confirmation email once the payment is processed. **If you haven't received your membership confirmation within 24 hours of purchase, Apple asks you to contact them.**

What to include in your message to [Apple Developer support](https://developer.apple.com/support/enrollment/):

1. **Your Enrollment ID**, which Apple specifically asks for. Its help pages don't say where to find it: look for it in the emails you got from Apple Developer after submitting your request.
2. The email address of the Apple Account you used to enroll, not a different one.
3. The date and time of payment, and the amount charged.
4. A screenshot of the status shown when you sign in to the developer website.

If your payment was declined rather than processed, check your card first: your own, with a high enough limit, and chargeable in USD if Apple showed you its card form. With the Apple Developer app, membership is an annual subscription paid with your Apple Account's payment method, and it renews automatically. The guide on [renewing your Apple Developer subscription](https://devoria.fr/en/blog/apple-developer-membership-renewal-cancellation) explains where to see it and how to turn it off.

## While you wait, keep moving without an account

Nothing forces you to wait on Apple to get work done. Without a membership, you can already:

- build and run your app in the iPhone simulator, with Xcode or Expo;
- prepare your App Store listing: name, subtitle, keywords, screenshots;
- write your privacy policy and the support page App Store Connect will ask for.

What needs a membership: [TestFlight](https://devoria.fr/en/blog/testflight-test-iphone-app-before-submitting), distribution certificates and uploading to App Store Connect. The [iOS & Android Kit](https://devoria.fr/en/kits/ios) contains the starter code I use for my apps, ready to ship as soon as your account opens.

## Frequently asked questions

### How long does Apple Developer Program enrollment take?

For an individual, Apple gives only one timeline: if your membership confirmation doesn't arrive within 24 hours of payment, contact support with your Enrollment ID. For an organization, Apple verifies the entity before offering payment, with no stated timeline.

### My Apple Developer enrollment has been pending for a week, what should I do?

First check the known causes: exact legal name, a card in your name, an address that isn't a P.O. box, two-factor authentication turned on. Then write to Apple Developer support with your Enrollment ID, the email of the Apple Account you used and the payment date.

### Apple charged me $99 but I haven't received any email, is that normal?

The first email is an order acknowledgment, the second a confirmation once the payment is processed. If the second doesn't arrive within 24 hours, Apple asks you to contact them. Also check your spam folder and the email address of the Apple Account you used to enroll.

### Can I pay for my Apple Developer account with a relative's card?

For an individual paying by card, Apple asks you to use your own card. With someone else's, your enrollment is delayed and Apple asks for a copy of an official photo ID.

### Is an ID required to enroll?

In the Apple Developer app, a photo of your ID is part of enrollment. On the web, Apple may ask for it depending on the case. Once verified, your identity is tied to your Apple Account and can't be verified with another one.

### Can you speed up Apple Developer enrollment?

Apple doesn't offer any way to do that on its help pages. The fastest route is still an error-free request: legal name, personal card, real address, and an immediate reply if Apple asks for a document.

### What's the difference between enrolling on the web and in the Apple Developer app?

Both lead to the same membership. The app adds identity verification with a photo of your ID and bills the membership as an annual subscription tied to your Apple Account. On the web, you pay through the Apple online store, or by card where the program isn't sold there, and Apple only asks for an ID in certain cases.
