# Apple Developer membership renewal and cancellation > The Apple Developer membership costs $99 a year and renews on the website or in the Apple Developer app. If it expires, your apps can no longer be downloaded. You can renew it yourself starting 30 days before it expires, or let automatic renewal handle it, either on the website or in the Apple Developer app. **If it expires, your apps can no longer be downloaded from the App Store**, but they keep working for people who already installed them. This guide picks up after sign-up: to open your [Apple developer account](https://devoria.fr/en/blog/apple-developer-account-cost-free-or-99) and choose your status, read the dedicated guide first. My iOS apps, like Solys and TradaZen, depend on this membership: if it expires, they leave the App Store. Everything here comes from Apple's official pages, reviewed on October 25, 2026. ## How much the Apple Developer membership costs each year According to [Apple's purchase and activation page](https://developer.apple.com/fr/support/purchase-activation/), the membership costs 99 USD a year, converted into your local currency where available. The price can vary by region, and the purchase is subject to your region's or state's tax rate where applicable. For a price in euros, the simplest public reference is the Apple Developer app listing. On October 25, 2026, [the French listing](https://apps.apple.com/fr/app/apple-developer/id640199958) showed the Apple Developer Program in-app purchase at **98.99 euros**, and the US listing at $98.99. What you pay for each year is access to member-only tools. According to [the membership comparison](https://developer.apple.com/fr/support/compare-memberships/), that includes App Store Connect, used for beta testing and distributing your apps, and Certificates, Identifiers & Profiles. Two rules in the [Apple Developer Program License Agreement](https://developer.apple.com/support/terms/apple-developer-program-license-agreement/) govern this payment: - **The fees are non-refundable** (section 8), and taxes are on you. They must be current when you submit an app. - **The agreement runs for one year from your account's activation** (section 11.1), then renews for one-year periods, subject to payment of the annual fee. ## Automatic renewal: where to turn it on or off It all depends on where you paid the first time. | Enrolled on | Renewal | To stop it | | ----------------------- | --------------------- | ------------------- | | Apple Developer website | Option to turn on | Turn the option off | | Apple Developer app | Automatic, by default | Cancel in Settings | ### Enrolled on the website According to [the renewal help page](https://developer.apple.com/fr/help/account/membership/renewal/), turn on automatic renewal in the Membership details section of your account. Apple then charges the default card on your Apple Account on the expiration date. To stop, turn the same option off. **This option is only available in some regions**: if you don't see it, renew manually. ### Enrolled in the app Your membership is then an auto-renewable subscription, paid with the default payment method on your Apple Account. According to [the app help page](https://developer.apple.com/fr/help/account/membership/enrolling-in-the-app/), you can cancel it in Settings up to the day before your annual renewal date. On iPhone, [Apple Support](https://support.apple.com/fr-fr/118428) gives the path: Settings, your name, Subscriptions, the subscription in question, then Cancel Subscription. You keep your benefits until the expiration date, shown in the Account tab of the app. For an organization, **only the Account Holder can renew and manage automatic renewal.** ## Renewing manually, and when you can start Manual renewal opens **30 days before expiration**, and stays available afterward. Sign in to the Apple Developer website with the Apple Account you enrolled with, then click Renew Membership. - **Before expiration**: the renewal takes effect at the end of your current membership. Renewing early doesn't cost you a single day. - **After expiration**: it takes effect once the new purchase is confirmed. Your free apps become available again within 24 hours. Your paid apps come back once you accept the paid apps agreement again in App Store Connect. You don't need to resubmit them. That agreement is the Paid Apps Agreement. [App Store Connect Help](https://developer.apple.com/help/app-store-connect/manage-agreements/sign-and-update-agreements) confirms it: after a late renewal, you have to accept it again, and it must be active to submit or update a paid app and its in-app purchases. If your membership goes through the app and you canceled it, you can resubscribe up to one year after the expiration date. ## What happens the day your membership expires Here's each item, based on Apple's renewal page unless stated otherwise. | Item | What happens | | ------------------------------ | ----------------------------- | | Your apps on the App Store | No longer downloadable | | New apps and updates | Can't be submitted | | Users who already have the app | It keeps working | | Certificates and profiles | No more access to manage them | | App Store Connect | Some features only | | Test devices | Removed after 180 days | | Return of paid apps | Agreement must be re-accepted | | Payments | Agreement in effect required | | TestFlight | Not specified | Three rows need a bit more detail. **Certificates.** You lose access to Certificates, Identifiers & Profiles: you can't create or manage them anymore. The page doesn't say existing certificates get revoked. To understand what they do, read the certificate and provisioning profile guide. **Payments.** According to [the payments help page](https://developer.apple.com/help/app-store-connect/getting-paid/overview-of-receiving-payments), Apple only pays you if your Paid Apps Agreement is in effect. The renewal page doesn't say what happens to pending amounts. **If you sell a subscription, renew before expiration, not after.** **TestFlight.** Apple's page doesn't mention it. Renew before starting a round of [TestFlight testing](https://devoria.fr/en/blog/testflight-test-iphone-app-before-submitting), rather than finding out the answer with your testers. For devices, 30 days before expiration, the Account Holder can [download the list of their test devices](https://developer.apple.com/help/account/devices/removing-devices-for-membership-expiration) or ask for them to be removed as soon as the membership expires. If they don't choose, the devices are removed after 180 days. > An expired membership doesn't break your users' app. It closes your storefront and blocks your updates. ## Canceling the Apple Developer Program Canceling means turning off renewal. On the website, turn off automatic renewal. In the app, cancel the subscription in Settings. Your membership runs until its expiration date, then the table above applies. **There's no refund.** For the app, Apple writes that fees paid for the year you cancel are non-refundable. The license agreement says the same for the program's annual fees. In the 30 days before expiration, download your test device list. ## Changing your status or Account Holder You started as an individual, then set up a company? Converting to an organization account is done on request to Apple, with your company's D-U-N-S number. **Don't file that request during a renewal.** The renewal page is clear: converting an individual account to an organization waits until the renewal is complete. Same rule for transferring the Account Holder role. [The page on updating your account](https://developer.apple.com/fr/help/account/membership/updating-your-account-information/) adds that, for an individual, this transfer is only granted in limited cases, with Apple's involvement. ## Invoice and VAT for a business How you pay decides which document you get: - **Purchase on the online Apple Store**: invoices are available in your online Apple Store account. - **Purchase through the card form**, offered when your region doesn't have these products on the online Apple Store: ask Apple Developer Support for the invoice. - **Purchase in the app**: a receipt arrives by email, and you can resend it from Purchase History, in Settings. Apple applies your region's tax rate when there is one. To pay with your company card in the app, add it to the Apple Account signed in on the device settings. **Have your accountant approve the document before you reclaim VAT**: Apple's pages don't detail what's on the invoice. ## Fee waivers: who qualifies [The fee waiver page](https://developer.apple.com/fr/help/account/membership/fee-waivers/) limits it to organizations that meet four conditions: 1. be a nonprofit legal entity, an accredited educational institution, or a government entity; 2. not be an individual, or a sole proprietorship or single-person business; 3. not have signed the paid apps agreement, or have terminated it; 4. not sell any digital goods or services through its apps. **So a freelancer or a micro-entreprise doesn't qualify.** The Account Holder must confirm eligibility at every annual renewal, and Apple doesn't refund, even partially, a membership already paid. ## My renewal checklist 1. Write down your expiration date. 2. Thirty days before: renew, or check that automatic renewal is on and your card is valid. 3. Download your test device list. 4. Push any status conversion or Account Holder transfer until after renewal. 5. After a late renewal: accept the Paid Apps Agreement, then check that your paid apps are back. 6.
