Mobile app MVP: ship a first version instead of polishing it

A mobile app MVP tells you whether anyone cares about your idea. It's not meant to have everything. Lots of beginners get stuck because they want ten screens before publishing. With the iOS Kit, you cut your app down to one core feature, start from code where the paywall is already in place, and get it ready for the App Store.

What you'll learn

Cutting down to one feature
You learn to cut: what goes into the first version, what waits, and why. The list is written in step one.
A price from the start
You set the audience and price with the idea, because a subscription added later changes the product.
Short onboarding
The first screens decide whether people stay. You build onboarding that leads to the core feature, then the paywall.
Tracking with PostHog
You add events at key steps to see where people drop off, instead of guessing.
A real launch as the goal
An MVP that stays on your computer teaches you nothing. The goal is to send it to Apple by the end of the four steps.

Step by step

  1. Step 1

You pick the idea, audience and price, and write down what's not in the first version.

  2. Step 2

You build only the core feature and test it on your iPhone.

  3. Step 3

You add onboarding, the paywall and tracking.

  4. Step 4

You prepare the listing and send your first version to Apple.

Why learn with me

Each of my apps started from a cut-down first version, published, then fixed based on what the data showed. Those are the trade-offs you learn to make on your own app: what to cut, what to keep, what to measure.

FAQ

Does my idea have to be original?

Not necessarily. A useful app for a specific audience, with a clear feature, beats a brand-new idea nobody's looking for. Step one of the path is there to help you choose.

Do I need a paywall in the MVP?

Often yes, to find out if people will pay. You decide in step one, with the idea and the price.

How long does an MVP take?

It depends on your idea and the time you put in: the kit is self-paced. If your idea is big, you learn to split it so a first part can ship.

What if nobody uses it?

You'll have learned that in a few weeks instead of several months. The data tells you where things get stuck, and the Discord stays open for help.
